Player Bio:
John Anthony Scalzi (b. March 22, 1907 in Stamford, CT – d. September 27, 1962 in Port Chester, NY) was a Major League Baseball player. He played in two games for the Boston Braves between June 19 and 24, 1931.
Johnny was president of the Colonial League from 1948 to 1950. He was later a scout for the New York Mets in 1962. When he was leaving the Polo Grounds on September 27th, 1962 after he had supervised a tryout, his car collided with another car near Port Chester, New York and he died from his injuries.
Scalzi Park, the largest recreational area within his home city of Stamford, Connecticut, is named after him.
No known relation to Frank John "Skeeter" Scalzi, player for the 1939 NY Giants, though both ended their pro baseball careers in car accidents.
