Image from JG-TC.com – At Sportsman’s Park on Sept. 28, 1952, Cubs outfielder Frank Baumholtz swings at the only pitch that Stan Musial threw for the Cardinals in his 22-year-career in St. Louis. The Cardinals catcher is Bill Sarni, and the umpire is Augie Guglielmo. Baumholtz was a lefthanded hitter who switched to the right side for his at-bat against Musial. He grounded the ball to third and reached base on an error.

playerbio

Born in Waterbury, CT, Augie Guglielmo was a professional umpire for more than 20 years, and spent one full year as a National League umpire, in 1952, working a total of 154 games. He was the senior ump in the Triple-A International League from 1953 through '66.

Augie was part of a group of Italian-Americans – Babe Pinelli, Art Passarella, Joe Paparella, Frank Dascoli, Augie Donatelli, Joe Linsalata, and Alex Salerno – whose presence was conspicuous for the first time in ranks of umpires in the 1940s and 1950s.

He is the stepfather of fellow umpire Terry Tata.

i saw augie umpire at toronto maple leaf stadium and saw step son terry tata umpire at maple leaf stadium. i was a local umpire of minor baseball and met terry and his partner dave phillips before a game at the park, apparently they left there eqipment in rochester and were inquiring about using my outside chest protecter. they were supplied with eqipment by toronto maple leafs team.
