Player Bio:
Brian James Esposito (born February 24, 1979 in Staten Island, New York) is an American minor league baseball manager and former professional baseball catcher who appeared in three games in the Major Leagues in brief stints with the St. Louis Cardinals (2007) and Houston Astros (2010).
Catcher Brian Esposito was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the fifth round of the 2000 amateur draft and made his pro debut that year with the Lowell Spinners., He split 2002 between the GreenJackets and the Sarasota Red Sox before being converted to a relief pitcher before the 2003 season. He pitched in 13 games for Augusta and Sarasota before the Red Sox gave up on the pitching experiment and released him on June 30th. Less than a month later, he was signed by the Anaheim Angels, and he closed out the season with stints with the Provo Angels and Rancho Cucamonga Quakes.
He made his first major league appearance in 2007 with the St. Louis Cardinals as a ninth-inning defensive replacement at catcher on June 2nd. It was his only appearance of the season, and he would not be back in the Show for another three years.
On July 14, 2008, Esposito was one of two catchers to take the mound and get a decision in the second game of a Texas League doubleheader. He threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief, from the 11th through the 13th, to get the win for the Tulsa Drillers over the Springfield Cardinals. The losing "pitcher" was Matt Pagnozzi, his fellow backstop on the 2007 Memphis Redbirds.
On September 18, 2010, Esposito logged his first Major League at bats in a game for the Houston Astros.
In 2013, Esposito became a coach for the Indianapolis Indians. In 2014, the Pirates appointed him manager of the Jamestown Jammers. Esposito was scheduled to manage the Indianapolis Indians in 2020 before the season was cancelled due to Covid-19. Brian is on Twitter @BrianEspo41.
