Joseph Anthony "Trey" Mancini III was born in Winter Haven, FL. He made his MLB debut in 2016. His nickname "Boomer", originally "Boom Boom" after Ray Mancini, had morphed into its current form while at the University of Notre Dame.

Trey has always identified as Italian-American, a third-generation member of an immigrant family. Trey’s great grandfather, Antonio, immigrated in 1904 at age 21, from the small city of Turi, near Italy’s Adriatic coast. Southern Italians faced difficult conditions in America at the turn of the 20th century, where they were less than welcome in most communities and faced discrimination and slurs in both the North and the South. Just 13 years earlier, in 1891, 11 Italian-Americans -- acquitted in the killing of the local police chief -- were hanged in New Orleans in one of the largest mass lynchings in U.S. history.

Antonio married Margherita, another Turi immigrant, in 1910. The couple settled in New Britain, Conn., where they opened a small grocery store, a macaroni factory and eventually, the pepper cannery in nearby Southington. The Mancini Packing Company was founded in 1922 and, before long, Antonio, Margherita and their six children worked together to operate it.

In the 1940's the Mancini family moved down from New England to Tampa, where Trey’s great-grandfather, Antonio, heard from a connection with the American Can Company of some available land in Zolfo Springs. This is where their headquarters for the past seven decades has been, and where they’ve built two warehouses and one 20,000-square-foot processing building on the campus now run by Trey’s family.

The Orioles selected Trey in the eighth round of the 2013 MLB draft. He signed, and made his professional debut with the Aberdeen IronBirds of the Class A-Short Season New York–Penn League that same year.

Trey homered in his major league debut for the Baltimore Orioles against the Boston Red Sox on September 20, 2016. He connected for a solo shot off Eduardo Rodriguez in the 5th inning, but the Orioles lost the game, 5-2. He then homered in his next two games as well to become the first player in Orioles history to accomplish the feat. The next year, Trey was named to the 2017 Topps All-Star Rookie Team. Trey finished third in the Rookie of the Year voting in 2017.

In 2018, he slumped to .242 and 55 RBIs although he did hit 24 homers again, playing the same three positions as the year before. In 2019, he moved over to right field, but also saw time at first base and DH as he was in the starting line-up nearly everyday. In a year when home runs were flying out of the park at Camden Yards in record numbers, he hit 35 long balls, to go along with 38 doubles, 97 RBIs and a .291 batting average. His OPS+ was 135, although he went largely under the radar given how bad his team was.

Trey hit 35 home runs and knocked in 97 runs on a very bad Orioles team in 2019 and is clearly on the ascent despite a health setback in 2020. In 2021, he was was awarded the AL Comeback Player of the Year.

On 8/1/22, Trey was traded to Houston as part of a deadline deal, as the Astros sought to improve for the pennant stretch, and was part of the 2022 World Series Astro's World Championship victory.
