Player Bio:
Lucas Christopher Duda (born February 3, 1986 in Fontana, CA) is an American former professional baseball first baseman who played most of his 9 year Major League Baseball career for the New York Mets. He also played for the Tampa Bay Rays, Atlanta Braves and Kansas City Royals. Prior to playing professionally, Duda attended the University of Southern California (USC) and played college baseball for the USC Trojans.
Lucas made his MLB debut in 2010 for the Mets. He was the starting first baseman for the 2015 Mets team that won the National League pennant, and led the team in games played during the 2010s. Lucas also was in the top 10 in Home Runs in the National League twice (2014, 2015). In 2015, Lucas also amassed 14 total HBP, breaking the Mets single season record, previously shared by John Olerud and Ron Hunt.
His surname is of Polish origin. His father’s name is David Hunt Duda. Lucas has Italian roots from his maternal grandparent Josephine Boggio). Unsurprisingly, he was greeted with the song "Camptown Races" on the road throughout his career, though he wasn't a fan of the practice.
