Daniel Kramer: "The best reliever you've never heard of: AL ROY candidate Trivino's 1.16 ERA 3rd best among MLB relievers", mlb.com, August 6, 2018
Lou Albert Trivino was born October 1, 1991 in Green Lane, PA. He is a pitcher for the New York Yankees. He was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 11th round of the 2013 Major League Baseball draft, and he signed and made his professional debut that same year with the Vermont Lake Monsters.
Lou began the 2018 season with Nashville, but was promoted to Oakland on April 17, making his MLB debut that night against the Chicago White Sox. The next day, also against the White Sox in 14 innings, he earned his first MLB win pitching three shutout innings allowing two hits and striking out four. For the season, he appeared in 69 games, collecting an ERA of 2.92 in 74 innings. He recorded a record of 8-3 with 4 saves. In the 2018 AL Wild Card Game, Lou Trivino posted three shutout innings following a difficult September.
In 2019, despite a strong start, Trivino posted an ERA of 5.25 in 61 games. In 2020, he significantly reduced his WHIP and FIP to 1.11 and 3.92, respectively, both excellent numbers, and in 2021 he racked up 22 saves with a 3.78 FIP.
Lou began the 2021 season as part of a closer-by-committee arrangement with the departure of Liam Hendriks via free agency. For July, he won the Reliever of the Month Award in the American League, and finished the season with 22 saves and a 3.18 ERA.
On 8/1/22, Lou was traded to the Yankees along with Frankie Montas for prospects.
