playerbio

Born in Maiden, MA, Gary Thomas DiSarcina was a former Angel's shortstop, and is a current third base coach with the Washington Nationals. He played his entire Major League Baseball (MLB) career for the California / Anaheim Angels.

He was voted onto the AL All-Star team in 1995, and while unspectacular, he provided solid day-in-day-out play and sound fundamentals for the Angels for 11 years. Watch Gary contribute to a 9th Inning, 7 run comeback versus the Blue Jays

"I retired in 2002, and that was the year the Angels made the playoffs and won the World Series. They called me and asked if I would throw out the first pitch during the Yankee series. As I was walking to the mound to throw out the ceremonial first pitch, the crowd gave me a standing ovation and it brought tears to my eyes. I could not believe the reception I got, and I thought about how proud I was to have played my entire big league career in front of those fans." - Gary DiSarcina on "Red Sox Nation" (June 13, 2005)

In addition to the Nationals, he has been a coach for the Mariners, Angels, Red Sox, and Mets. Gary's brother, Glenn DiSarcina, played six years in the minors for the White Sox.
